FAQ-English

Here are some popular questions people ask – and Steve has some answers!

Most answers are in English, Turkish, Spanish, and soon we will have them in French, Portuguese, Chinese, Dutch, and German too.

Steve LEGO Strategic Play

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology combines visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles into one uniquely creative and powerful approach. It teaches people—both introverts and extroverts—to think with their hands and better communicate their ideas, allowing a greater flow of information. People actually get to hear and see what others are saying. And this is the perfect tool to get everyone excited about thinking creatively. Everyone bonds and actively participate as they problem solve together, all while having fun in an environment that encourages free idea generation.

Imagine the possibilities and excitement as LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology:

  • Quickly shows ideas inside your mind
  • Gives equal air time to everyone at the table
  • Tests out real business and team scenarios
  • Engages all while building trust
  • Unifies teams with a shared language and identity

The possible applications are so numerous, we probably haven’t thought of them all. To list more than a few, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is great for:

  • Team development
  • Innovation of products and services
  • Project management
  • Brand creation
  • Business start-ups
  • Coaching and leadership development
  • Organizational strategy
  • Communication strategy
  • Conflict management
  • Succession planning
  • Multiple stakeholder engagements
  • Change management
  • Creative problem solving
  • Group decision making

You want to learn more now, don’t you? You’re in luck. We also have a handy little brochure that explains more about the neuroscience and learning process, right here.

LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Methodology was in many ways the brainchild of the current owner of the LEGO® Systems Group in Denmark, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen who discovered the work of Johan Roos and Bart Victor.  He teamed up these Organizational Psychologists, who invented developed, created, and tested the process at their Imagination Lab in Switzerland. Once proven in the market the LEGO Systems Group brought the method back in-house at and the company retains ownership today.

Here is the back story:  How it all began. Click Here.

In the early days when we began, only licensed partners were allowed to use this fantastic system. Management consultants who the LEGO® Group deemed to have the necessary qualifications were trained to use the process in their work. But time has passed and the model has changed, and now the company graciously allows people to access this process through an open source model.

LEGO® created an open source document you can access right here (see link below). This explains quite a bit about the process. But take note, they advise you to seek actual training and certification if you want to use the system; there is a lot to learn and understand to make the most of it.

Download (The Open Source Document here).

If you want to try this method without being trained, you can give it a shot. But we’d advise otherwise—so would the LEGO® Group and the community of users. We all want you to be a success. And of course, we never want to “harm” participants. We offer an intensive, three-day training program, and you can even take more advanced add-on sessions down the road if you like. Think of it this way. The more you learn about it from the pros (that’s us) the stronger your skills, and the more value you can give to your clients. Everyone wins. A word of caution, though. Just be sure you learn with someone who knows what they are doing. We’d hate to see you waste your time and resources on subpar training.

Jacqueline "Jacquie" Lloyd Smith, of Lloyd Smith Solutions (Canada), was an original members of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Training Board in the LEGO Play4Business Division. Before the system went open source, she trained and certified people on behalf of the LEGO® Systems Group. Jacquie actively participated to bring it to the open source model we know today, which collectively we achieved in 2010.

The Strategic Play Team is on a constant mission to learn more and bring fresh ideas into this basic training program, which is a dynamic and learner-centered model. Jacquie has created her own specialized programs.

This is a dry question but it’s important. First, we’ll point you to the trademark rule document the LEGO® Group created. And then the LEGO® website offers a brochure with in-depth information on the rules so you can learn to play fair as you play well.

The Strategic Play® Group Limited is a registered Canadian Company owned by Lloyd Smith Solutions.  And lucky us, our head office is located in the resort town of Whistler British Columbia Canada.

That's right we are a privately held company started by really nice Canadians with friendly licensed partners all over the world.

And the name Strategic Play®? Just so you know, that’s a registered trademark.

Sometimes we work directly and collaborate with the LEGO® Systems Group and consult with them from time to time. But we are a completely separate company. We are truly honored to be friends and goodwill ambassadors to the LEGO® Group, and specifically to the LEGO® Foundation.  We recognize and continue to learn from the incredible work they are doing globally as they spread the word that children learn through play, and it's a lifelong process.

Our licensed trainers offer all the same training, developed and supervised by one of the original Master Trainers in LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for the LEGO® Systems Group, Jacqueline Lloyd Smith. Our training is offered globally by amazing facilitator-trainers who speak the local language and understand the regions business culture.

And, we are proud to say that we also have Maxine King, a seasoned curriculum designer on our team so all our training is brain-friendly and offered to the highest standards.

Our head office is based in the beautiful resort town of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Our associates are located around the world:

LEGO Figure photography on Whistler Mountains

We’ll keep you busy building your new skills with LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®. But since you’ll be here anyway, you really should consider building in some fun time for the vacation of a life time!

Getting to Whistler is easy:

Don’t worry about finding your way, you just fly into Vancouver International Airport (YVR). You can let your travel agent know that WestJet flies to Vancouver 65 times a day from 12 Canadian cities, 9 U.S. cities, and 4 Mexican cities. Flying from overseas? You can check out Air Canada or one of the other many international flights that arrive in Vancouver every minute.

Where does the facilitator training take place?

Our location and hotel:

Nita Lake Lodge, (www.nitalakelodge.com). Not only is this the best boutique hotel in Canada but it’s also ranked 12th in the world. Lucky us, this is where our office is located. And lucky you because it’s also the home to our Strategic Play (training) Room. Enjoy every convenience this amazing lakeside lodge has to offer. And yes, they offer special rates to all our guests. To book a room, just call and ask for the special "Strategic Play Rate" while attending the training. But as a special perk, they also extend the rate so you can enjoy your visit before and after the training. The hotel has a free shuttle to take you in and out of the village. Or if you are looking for some fresh air on route to the shops, borrow a free bike—they have them waiting for you, so no need to rent a car on this trip!

Hotel where we train in Whistler, BC

Getting to the hotel from the airport:

There are multiple shuttles running from the airport to the hotel almost hourly. Here are a few you can catch:

Explore the Mountains in Whistler, BC!

There are more than 8,000 breathtaking mountainous and alpine acres at Whistler-Blackcomb and you don’t need to ski to see them!

You can get inside information by taking one of the many free tours available—volunteers take groups for both sightseeing tours and ski tours daily. In fact, some of the members of the Strategic Play Team also volunteer as mountain hosts.  Don't forget your camera!

On the mountain, you can head for the family zone, the expert slopes, or the mellow slopes of the Emerald Express. There truly is something for everyone. Non-skiers can grab a sightseeing ticket and take photos from the amazing Peak 2 Peak Gondola, which connects both Whistler and Blackcomb. At over three kilometers, it’s the longest unsupported span in the world.

Skiing in WHistler, BC

You can eat inside or outside on the patio at any one of the many alpine restaurants with quick-serve menus, including Japanese and Mexican at the Rendezvous Lodge. Or you might like the fine dining at Christine’s Restaurant with its amazing views and fantastic menu, which was designed by chef Steve Ramey—formerly of Vancouver’s acclaimed Hawksworth Restaurant. These are just two of the many spots to grab a hot chocolate in the winter or a cold lemonade in the summer.

At night you can join your family in the Coca-Cola Tube Park at the base of Blackcomb. It’s lit well into the evening and has a conveyor lift to take you and yours to new heights for endless fun!  The village is set up for families so make sure you check out all the entertainment like the kid's night out or the fire and ice show.

Beautiful scenery in Whistler, BC

Or you might like to see the mountain at night by snow machine. They provide all the gear and the guide, and you can even book a fondue to replace all the energy you will burn from the sheer excitement.

Snowmobile in Whistler, BC

If it’s a thrill you are looking for, don’t forget you can also grab a zipline and see the mountain at top speed with an adrenaline rush that will last for years! You might like to film the entire thing with your go-pro, so don’t leave that at home if you have one.

Hiking in mountains, WHistler, BC

But it’s not all about the winter. In the summer you can go on a guided bear tour, or just explore the many trails on the mountain and see how many wild flowers you can ID in the alpine meadows. You can also ride the mountain by bike—that’s right, the chairlifts and gondolas convert into bike carriers that will get you and all your gear to the top for a fun ride down. Don’t worry, bikes and helmets and gear are all available for rental.

Off the Mountain

We also have five lakes in Whistler, with lots of water fun. You can swim, go white water rafting, canoe, paddle board, kayak, fish, sail, and so much more!   Recreational trails link the entire village from end to end so you and your family are safe to ride bikes, walk, or jog, no need for a car in this happening resort town.  Once you get to the village, it’s all walking streets only.

Beautiful Parks in Whistler, BC

There is no need to exert yourself, Whistler has so many relaxing things to do for those lazy days. Grab a coffee or tea in one of the many coffee shops and tea houses. And don’t forget to visit Purebred, our favorite goodie shop with specialties with names like “Crack” and “Adult Cookies.” You will quickly see why these sweet treats are so addictive. And while you are near Purebread and David’s Tea, make sure you get your photo taken at the Olympic Rings or watch people skate on the free ice rink (skates are also available for rent).

With hundreds of excellent restaurants, you will have trouble deciding where to dine. Just ask, we can give you some hints about our favorites and the best places to find seafood—we love the oysters—Italian, French, Sushi, fondue, etc. For dessert, we can direct you towards crepes, gelato, or maybe a sticky candy apple from the Rocky Mountain Fudge Shop.

Whistler Village

If you are looking for some culture, we have that too. You can visit the excellent Squamish Lil’wat Culture Centre to explore the music, art, and history of the area’s First Nations. Make sure you catch an opening tour that begins with drumming and a short movie. Grab some venison chilli with bannock at their café. And don’t leave without going into their amazing gift shop on the lower level, which sells some beautiful things you won’t see anywhere else!

Culture in Whistler, BC

The brand-new Audain Art Museum will open this spring and is sure to be a must-see. Don’t think you can get in and out quickly, this is a 56,000 square foot state of the art museum, featuring the owner’s private collection of works by Emily Carr, along with traveling works that will keep you captivated.

At night you can catch a movie at the movie theater or maybe a play at the Whistler Art Center, also located in the village. And in the summertime they have lots of fun workshops for children and youth.  If you are into nightlife, you can also join in the fun at any one of the many nightclubs where dancing is also on the menu.

If you want something quieter, you must head to the Scandinave Spa in Whistler. It’s one of the most relaxing places in Whistler, with outdoor hot and cold plunge baths and indoor steam and sauna rooms, with beautiful outdoor fireplaces and seating. And you can book an amazing massage, or just relax in a quiet room with peaceful mountain views.

Natural Spa in Whistler, BC

If you play a musical instrument, bring it along. Our team members Doug and Steve usually plan a fun guitar jam night to celebrate your LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® CERTIFICATION graduation after some drinks on the patio of course!

Beautiful British Columbia is waiting for you and we can't wait to meet you in person!

Time and again people ask us:
“What are the seven ( 7) Applications of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods?”
Or they may ask
“Do you train in the seven Applications?”

The Good News, yes, of course, we train in the basic seven Applications.

And the Great News is we have so many, many more.

In the 1990s there were only 7 Applications, but that was TWO DECADES ago!   In the 90's we didn't know about the effects of sugar, plastics, cigarettes, and cyberbullying.

cerial ashtry plastics

It’s 2019 and we have an abundance of LSP Applications!

race-car-2018

Fact Check:   LEGO® did not include the Seven (7) Applications in the Open Source Materials because they saw the limitations to list just Seven (7).  It would be like saying there are only 7 colors of LEGO® bricks and we can’t imagine any more than 7, and anyone who comes up with 8 is wrong!

Anyone who really understands the real power of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY®  will agree, 7 is just the beginning of the applications and the way this powerful tool can be applied. Here’s a direct quote from the LEGO Systems Groups:

“New applications will be developed by the international community of users, …we welcome creative users of these tools and innovation in the community.”

–Introduction to LSP, 2010.

Yay!  The LEGO® Systems Group not only understood the value of NOT limiting the process to simply 7 Applications, but back in 2010 they used their creative imaginations and busted down the walls of 7 and encouraged the community to develop more Applications, and we are on it!

At The Strategic Play® Group, we realize people are only constrained by their thinking and maybe some old school, black and white ideas.

Check out our list of training programs to see how we are creatively on the move!   Along with writing LSP books and developing LSP cards and other tools, and running some amazing workshops -here is what we have been up to:

In 2015 we launched LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for Project Teams in Motion

In 2016 we launched LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for Creative Coaching

In 2017 we launched LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for Creative Problem Solving

In 2018 we launched:

  1. a) LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for Strategic Storytelling
  2. b) LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for Creative Conflict Management
  3. c) LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for Design Thinking.

Spoiler Alert – 2019 we are launching LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods for Lean and Agile Processes!  It’s under construction as you read this!

And did we mention that all the training that we offer is approved by the Global Federation of LSP Master Trainers?

Or that all our programs are validated by our in-house veteran Curriculum Designer with 30+ years of experience working in higher education who is also an expert on play and learning design?

And that our training programs are all developed in collaboration with our expert trainers and talented community members?

And that we continue to develop new applications every year because we are responsive to the needs of our clients and we remain, agile, adaptable, and flexible?

Our clients are counting on us to innovate. They need ways to out-imagine their competitors, and they know we can help them future-proof their businesses. That’s just one of the reasons we are named Best In Class by companies like Proctor and Gamble who are continually innovating.

Who PLANS to be the next Irrelevant company?

film001

The next time you hear alternate facts or someone brags that they are the only ones “qualified” to deliver or train in the 7 Applications of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods  –thank them for their time and quickly move on- unless you really want to be ......you know, Irrelevant!

Jacquie was a long-time partner with the LEGO® Systems Group Serious Play® Division and was appointed to the LEGO® Training Board by the LEGO® Play4Business Division.  LEGO® trained her as a “Master Trainer.” That’s such a great title, she continues to use it as part of her ongoing training and offerings.  And after all, she has been at this training thing for over 25 years, and specifically using LSP for over 10 years. Here supportive comments from some key people she worked with at LEGO® Systems Group Serious Play® Division in Denmark:

Jesper Just Jensen

 Director, LEGO SERIOUS PLAY, LEGO System A/S (business partner)

“Working with high professionalism, thinking abundantly & creatively, innovative, trustworthy & a relationship builder, works with integrity...is a robust and experienced consultant and facilitator...had someone made a Net Promoter Score on Jacquie it would hit a 100.” December 20, 2011.

Malcolm John Clapson

 Partner Relations, LEGO System A/S (business partner)

“I was responsible for the evaluation of Jacqueline's business as a prospective partner for the LEGO Group headquarters in Denmark. Lloyd Smith met both the financial and value based criteria for participation in business development activities. Partnerships and strong alliances start with knowledgeable leaders who pragmatically work to develop coherent solutions together. In Jacqueline and her colleagues, I found a sensitive yet strong group of consulting practitioners dedicated to solution thinking and value based consulting.” November 1, 2011

We certainly can, after you successfully complete the training program of your choice. We will give you a certificate with all the vital info—the number of hours you trained, the dates, and the location and that you were trained by us, Master Trainers in the  LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology. We will personally sign it and it will serve as proof of your attendance, participation, and of course, your certification.

This would be tough to answer, because of course we don’t know the details of others’ programs. But we try to be as transparent as we can through our marketing efforts, without giving away our in-house trade secrets and intellectual property. If you want to learn more about our program we are happy to share testimonials from our clients. You can also read about some of our success stories on this website, as well as in our case studies.

Watch these video testimonials.  You can hear for yourself what people are saying about our training.

Or follow this link to our consulting website and read about the work we have been doing with companies since 2003.

http://www.strategicplay.ca/article/case-studies-124.asp

After you have been certified we can help you become registered if you want, but this is totally optional. There are some forms and you’ll need to provide testimonials from clients who were happy with your work. We need to know you gave them a valuable experience. The paperwork allows us to give your contact and other info to the LEGO® Systems Group®.

Registration comes with benefits. You can have your LEGO® shipments sent to a specific address, a service LEGO® offers to registered facilitators. Registration also allows LEGO® to gage and understand customer needs, so they can be sure to have just the right things to fill your orders when you need them.

If you would like to be registered, let us know.  We will add your smile to our list!

All of your materials will come from the official LEGO® website. You will find the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® materials for sale in the Serious Play category, right here:  http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Serious-Play-ByTheme

If you are not in the U.S. or North America, simply change your location at the top of the page. If you are located somewhere that doesn't ship to you, please ask your Strategic Play trainer for help - that's what we do!

We hope this information has been helpful. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us:hello@strategicplay.com

What happens if  you really want to take the training but you don't yet have funding?

There are a few things we can suggest that have been proven to work for others...one could work for you too!

1. Download our ready made form letter and give this to your boss - you need to add his/her name and all the details but this really might help you make a case.

LETTER TO BOSS!

2. Check with your local economic development office or city hall, they may have training grants for "innovation" that you may be able to access.

3.  Post on facebook or Linked In that you are thinking of attending this training.  That might be all you need to help uncover a client that wants to use this methodology in their work.  Big 'hint', you can offer them a deal if they pay upfront.

4. Find a champion, maybe a friend, someone that wants to be your first client and "pre-sell" them a workshop.

5. Call all your old clients and see who wants to be "first" to try your brand new tool.

6. Are you or someone you know doing volunteer work for a non-profit or a board?  Sell the board on the idea of using this methodology for stakeholder engagements or for the next board retreat and see if a member might have funding available back at the office to sponsor your training in exchange for your LEGO® methodology know how.

7. Host a training in your area and we can come to you.   If you can find a group of trainees eagar to learn LSP and a great location, you can host and attend at a big, big discount (maybe free).

8. Download case studies from our consulting site and use these to help you create some interest in your network. Here is the link!

9. If you have tried all these ideas and not one of them worked, we will be shocked!

Send us a letter at hello@strategicplay.com detailing your efforts and if we are convinced that you really, really want to come, we will work out a payment plan that works for you.  Why?  Because we believe that everyone should have this amazing and powerful tool in their tool kit to make the world a better place.  And we know that you will be so amazing as a newly minted certified LSP practitioner, that you will find a way to 'play it forward'.

Stop reading this now and start posting on social media "I'm attending the next Strategic Play® certification course in LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® " set the intention, take the first step!  You have the power!

Don’t think of us as tedious or overly formal, but we will require our attendees to sign and agree to our Terms of Use upon registering and joining our program. It states that you cannot share, alter, translate, upload, or copy our materials, systems, or methods.   We want everyone to 'play well' so we do have some rules in place.

We are happy and eager to share our knowledge, but please respect our wishes and refer others to our training program if they want to learn more. We have a referral program in place that we can tell you about and when you refer you'll get lots more than just good karma!

We also insist that you agree to follow the trademark rules set out by the LEGO® Systems Group.

And as you know, this is facilitator training only, not train the trainer.  Please read the full agreement below to understand the Terms of Use.

  • Where we need to perform the contract we are about to enter into or have entered into with you. For example, when you purchase our products that is a contract.
  • Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests (or those of a third party) and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests. For example, when we carry out fraud screening as part of the checkout process.

See: Explaining the legal basis we rely on to process personal data, to find out more about the types of lawful bases that we will rely on to process your personal data.

  1. Explaining the legal bases we rely on to process personal data

Note that we may process your personal data for more than one lawful ground depending on the specific purpose for which we are using your data.

We do not carry out any automated decision making.

If you ever have any questions about this, all you have to do is ask. See: How to contact Strategic Play about privacy, below.

  1. Advertising, marketing, and your communications preferences

We may use your Identity, Contact, Technical, Tracking, Usage and Profile Data to form a picture of what we think you may want or need, or what may be of interest to you. This is how we decide which products, services, and offers may be relevant for you and tell you about them. This is what we call direct marketing.

We may carry out direct marketing by email, phone, text, or post. For example, you might have the Strategic Play newsletter hit your inbox or a cool promotional packaged might land on your doormat.

On our website, we always try hard to make it really clear what we are doing and what communications you will be sent, whether it is you deciding to sign up to the Newsletter or as part of creating an account or the purchase journey. And you have a right at any time to change your mind and say no thank you and opt out (but we’d be really sorry to see you go, so please gives us a chance by fine-tuning your preferences before really leaving us!). The easiest way to opt out is to use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the communication, and you can do this anytime, but we hope you don’t.

  1. Disclosures of your personal data

We do not share your personal data with others unless:

  1. We are sending you products directly from the printer where the product is made and they need your address for shipping;
  2. We are registering your information with the LEGO® Systems Group in Denmark, with your expressed agreement;
  3.  You are invited to join our network and when you so this you are listing your name on our community website to share with direct clients who are looking for facilitators like you, which you have also expressed agreement;
  4. The law otherwise requires it.

We may share personal data with the following categories third parties:

  • suppliers and service providers, such as technology service providers, payment processing and fraud prevention providers, manufacturers, and post and courier services;
  • Strategic Play Group affiliated companies;
  • auditors and professional advisers like bankers, lawyers, accountants, and insurers;
  • government, regulators, and law enforcement.
  • our research team.

From time to time, as part of our online assessment, users have been invited to participate in a research study, conducted by the Strategic Play Group Ltd. research team (we are a curious bunch). This research involves the development of an instrument to measure playful styles around the world. Participation is entirely voluntary; should you choose not to participate, you are welcome to withdraw at any time. You can withdraw by not completing the questions and leaving the site. Refunds will not be issued if you withdraw or for any other reason.

The information you provide will be kept strictly confidential. The informed consent forms and other identifying information will be kept separate from the data. All study records will be kept on a server which is accessible only to the research team at the secure site.  By clicking on "Start Assessment Now"   you are indicating your agreement to proceed with this research and also agreeing that you are at least 18 years of age.

We may also share data with third parties to whom we may choose to sell, transfer, or merge parts of our business or our assets. Alternatively, we may seek to acquire other businesses or merge with them. If a change happens to our business, then the new owners may use your personal data in the same way as set out in this privacy policy.

We require all third parties to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law. We do not allow our third-party service providers to use your personal data for their own purposes and only permit them to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions.

  1. Payment information

Strategic Play uses third party payment processors Eventbrite, Quickbooks, Nvite, Strip, and PayPal to process payments made for products and services via the Website. All online payments will be conducted in accordance with Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standards (which are high!) and your billing information, which is only used by these payment processors for the purpose of performing fraud protection, is encrypted before being communicated to them. Subject to the below exceptions, your credit card details are communicated directly from your browser to these payment processors. Strategic Play never (ever!) sees your full Permanent Account Number (PAN). This means the payment form is either off-site or displayed in a frame on the payment page.

  1. Third-Party Links

This website may include links to third-party websites, plug-ins, and applications (for example, the ability to sign in with Facebook). Clicking on those links or enabling those connections may allow third parties to collect or share data about you. We do not control these third-party websites and are not responsible for their privacy statements. When you leave our website, we encourage you to read the privacy policy of every website you visit.

  1. Data Retention

We will only keep your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.

To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure of your personal data, the purposes for which we process your personal data, and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.

By law, for Canadian tax purposes, we have to keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial, and Transaction Data) for seven years after they stop being customers.

In some circumstances you can ask us to delete your data; Please see: Your legal rights, below for further information.

In some circumstances, we may anonymize your personal data (so it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes, in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

  1. Your legal rights

If the General Data Protection Regulation applies to you because you are in the European Union, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data:

  • The right to be informed. That is an obligation on us to inform you how we use your personal data (and that is what we are doing in this privacy policy);
  • The right of access. That is a right to make what is known as a ‘data subject access request’ for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
  • The right to rectification That is a right to make us correct personal data about you that may be incomplete or inaccurate;
  • The right to erasure. That is also known as the ‘right to be forgotten,’ where in certain circumstances you can ask us to delete the personal data we have about you (unless there is an overriding legal reason we need to keep it);
  • The right to restrict processing. That is a right for you in certain circumstances to ask us to suspend processing personal data;
  • The right to data portability. That is a right for you to ask us for a copy of your personal data in a common format (for example, a .csv file);
  • The right to object. That is a right for you to object to us processing your personal data. For example, if you object to us processing your data for direct marketing;
  • Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling. That is a right you have for us to be transparent about any profiling we do, or any automated decision-making.

These rights are subject to certain rules around when you can exercise them.

If you wish to exercise any of the rights set out above, please contact us at:  Hello@strategicplay.com

You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data (or to exercise any of the other rights). However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive. Alternatively, we may refuse to comply with your request in these circumstances.

We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and ensure your right to access your personal data (or to exercise any of your other rights). This is a security measure to ensure personal data is not disclosed to any person who has no right to receive it. We may also contact you to ask you for further information in relation to your request to speed up our response.

We try to respond to all legitimate requests within one month. Occasionally, it may take us longer than a month if your request is particularly complex or you have made a number of requests. In this case, we will notify you and keep you updated.

  1. How to contact Strategic Play about privacy

If you have any questions about this privacy policy, or would like to exercise any of your rights, please email us hello@strategicplay.com or write to us with your letter addressed to: Data Privacy, Strategic Play Box 75 Sechelt, BC, Canada, V0N 3A0.

If you need help with our products and services, or this website generally, please contact us: hello@strategicplay.com

  1. A little request from us to you

It is important that the personal data we hold about you is accurate and current. Please keep us informed if your personal data changes during your relationship with us. You can do this by updating your account.

  1. Changes to this privacy policy

The General Data Protection Regulation is new and we are still reviewing new bits of guidance about how businesses should follow it. So you may see little updates to our privacy policy over the coming months. Be sure to check in and have a read every now and then.

Thank you again for working and playing with us – we hope together we can build great things!

There are multiple shuttles running from the airport to the village of Whistler almost hourly. Here are a few you can catch:

The Whistler Shuttle

Deluxe Motor Bus

The Snow Bus from Vancouver

And don't forget to ask the hotel about their airport shuttle service, many have them.

On the Mountain!

You can eat inside or outside on the patio at any one of the many alpine restaurants with quick service menus, including Japanese and Mexican at the Rendezvous Lodge. Or you might like the fine dining at Christine’s Restaurant with its amazing views and a fantastic menu, which was designed by chef Steve Ramey—formerly of Vancouver’s acclaimed Hawksworth Restaurant.

The village is set up for families so make sure you check out all the entertainment like the kids night out or the fire and ice show.

image

Or you might like to see the mountain at night by snow machine. They provide all the gear and the guide, and you can even book a fondue to replace all the energy you will burn from the sheer excitement.

image

If it’s a thrill you are looking for, don’t forget you can also grab a zipline and see the mountain at top speed with an adrenaline rush that will last for years! You might like to film the entire thing with your go-pro, so don’t leave that at home if you have one.

image

But it’s not all about the winter. In the summer you can go on a guided bear tour, or just explore the many trails on the mountain and see how many wild flowers you can ID in the alpine meadows. You can also ride the mountain by bike—that’s right, the chairlifts and gondolas convert into bike carriers that will get you and all your gear to the top for a fun ride down. Don’t worry, bikes and helmets and gear are all available for rental.

Off the Mountain

We also have five lakes in Whistler, with lots of water fun. You can swim, go white water rafting, canoe, paddleboard, kayak, fish, sail, and so much more!   Recreational trails link the entire village from end to end so you and your family are safe to ride bikes, walk, or jog, no need for a car in this happening resort town.  Once you get to the village, it’s all walking streets only.

image

For dessert, we can direct you towards crepes, gelato, or maybe a sticky candy apple from the Rocky Mountain Fudge Shop.

image

If you are looking for some culture, we have that too. You can visit the excellent Squamish Lil’wat Culture Centre to explore the music, art, and history of the area’s First Nations. Make sure you catch an opening tour that begins with drumming and a short movie. Grab some venison chilli with bannock at their café. And don’t leave without going into their amazing gift shop on the lower level, which sells some beautiful things you won’t see anywhere else!

image

The brand-new Audain Art Museum is a must-see. Don’t think you can get in and out quickly, this is a 56,000 square foot state of the art museum, featuring the owner’s private collection of works by Emily Carr, along with traveling works that will keep you captivated. Strategic Play Group are supporters of this wonderful facility.

 audain_gallery-00

At night you can catch a movie at the movie theater or maybe a play at the Whistler Art Center, also located in the village. And in the summertime, they have lots of fun workshops for children and youth.

Founded in 2016!

In 2016, at second our annual global un-conference and meeting for certified facilitators in LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology, a group of 30 facilitators (some in the picture below) met in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada where they deemed it valuable for a formal association to be developed.  Jacqueline Lloyd Smith, an original Master Trainer with the LEGO Systems Group, was asked to establish the Global Federation of  LSP Master Trainers.
