Strategic Play Team Workshop at the University of Victoria

In November, the Strategic Play team had the exciting opportunity to return to the University of Victoria, where we conducted a dynamic strategy and leadership workshop tailored for a senior team. It was invigorating to be back on campus, surrounded by enthusiastic students and a vibrant academic atmosphere.

 

Elements: The Nature of Innovative leadership.

We encouraged participants to explore and identify their individual leadership styles, especially in the context of leading change management. This introspective approach enabled the team to understand their strengths and areas for team support as they navigate the complexities of organizational change.

One of the unique aspects of this workshop includes using a metaphor of the four seasons and the equinoxes and solstices to illustrate the cyclical nature of change. By moving through each season, participants gained valuable insights into the different phases of change, allowing them to reflect deeply on their strategies and the timing of their initiatives and their leadership approaches.

Participants utilized LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methods as a hands-on tool to visually, metaphorically, and physically represent their current situation and future state. This interactive activity not only fostered creativity, but it also facilitated a comprehensive gap analysis, enabling the team to pinpoint obstacles and opportunities in their strategic plans.

As we progressed, the workshop culminated in the development of actionable solutions. Participants worked collaboratively to evaluate their ideas and created a comprehensive action plan that outlined clear steps towards achieving their strategic goals.

The workshop was not just about theory; it was about practical application and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation within the team. We left the University of Victoria feeling inspired by the engagement and creativity of the participants, ready to implement the insights gained from our time together.

In summary, our November workshop was a great success, emphasizing leadership, change management, and strategic planning through innovative and interactive methods. We look forward to more opportunities to collaborate with teams eager to develop their leadership skills and embrace the journey of change.
